An aura is a focal seizure. It is a warning- the calm before the storm. I used to get a Déjà vu(here we go again) feeling in my gut minutes before a grand mal/ clonic/tonic. I have smelled something very unfamiliar and I would black out, and I have gotten a metal taste in my mouth that told me get ready move things out of the way you can hurt yourself on, lay on your side.

My auras feel like deja vu with a metallic taste. I am more likely to have them when I am run down, sick, or when the weather is weird. I had a TBI when I was 11. I started having auras when I was about 12. My parents didn't know what they were. I called them "psychos". I had my first major seizure when I was 16. Auras can be a warning for a seizure. They can also just happen without any further seizure activity. They are also called focal aware seizures. They do not affect your consciousness, your ability to move, or cause visible physical symptoms. When I have a bad aura, I sometimes take half of a Lamictal. My husband calls it a "booster shot".

Also, the term is AURA, not aurora. They do sound very similar.

Auras are seizures. My doctors find seizure activity on my RNS when I have an aura. I get weird tastes in my throat area.
