It's true. Auras are "Simple Partial" seizures. Most of us focus on "Complex Partial" (or grand mal, Tonic Clonic) seizures, because they involve the loss of consciousness and are significantly more intense. Auras are seizures, however. Thankfully, they don't involve me passing out or falling down. I prefer them! 👍

We're lucky the auras are so easy to deal with, Sean!

Seeing the data on EEG while asking a question to a patient. If it isn’t deep ! The aura is pre-ictal, then seizure is ictal and after wards is post- is post-ictal!

I did know that an aura is a seizure. My RNS records all of my brain activity. I’ll write down on a piece of paper every day and time I have an aura. I’ll also touch my head with a magnet to highlight the spot. When I am at my appointments I’ll show my doctors a list of when I had an aura and my neurologist will find seizure activity on their computer most of the time. One time my doctors were looking at my brain waves on the screen and I started to feel an aura. My doctors looked at me and said “You’re having an aura aren’t you?” I told them yes. So auras are indeed Simple Focal Seizures.

My neurologist told me a little while back that auras are actually a type of seizure. I used to think of them as a precursor to a seizure- which I guess they also are as i mainly have tonic clonic seizures. But I didn’t think of them as anything more than a precursor to an impending seizure
