Hi, I've been out of work and I realized it has me gaining weight I was going to do a diet and maybe add wesgovy, ozempic or zepbound I asked my neurologist about those vs the Atkins diet vs a normal weight watchers type program. I am wondering if anyone who's not a diabetic or prediabetic have tried any of these drugs(wesgovy, ozempic, zepbound) or diets and has had a change in your seizures such as an increase or decrease?
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Because there is such a high demand for these at the moment, they have started to make generic versions. If you get a proper sourced generic version then it should be ok but some companies have started to make their own versions, and not all of these products work as they should.
Hey Naomi..
I haven’t tried those meds myself, but definitely ask your neurologist first. Diets can affect seizures differently for everyone. Hope you find what works best for you..
I do agree that AEDs will cause weight-gain. I have been going through the weight-gain and weight-loss for 50 plus years. I decided not worth my time in taking anything such as a weight loss medication. I changed my diet so it's more healthy and has less sugar intake. Removed the many items that could bring on the calories then began to walk more. Weight loss isn't an overnight sensation especially when taking anti-epilepsy medication. Having a cholesterol and heart issue, I work with my cardiologist who guides me on specific health and wellness areas. As a final note, there are specific medications I do take for my heart to assist with the care and wellness. One of the daily heart medications has been lowering my weight a small amount at a time safely.
I haven't but one word of advice if you do get approved for one of these don't fall for getting a generic version if these are still available in the US.
I’m trying to get on the Wegovy but there having a issue now with actually prescribing it for me so for now I’m just exercising and continuing my eating healthier with smoothies, more nutrition stuff and more vitamins stuff to help.
