@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member It basically means the eeg is abnormal and there is seizure activity picked up on the eeg. It's different from having a standard seizure. I always have results like this and when they only pick up this kind of activity, they consider it fine and If I haven't had a seizure for 1 year I can drive. Having said all that if this is only your first eeg expect a lot more tests because it can take while to work out what's going on.

An ambulatory EEG records your brain waves over an extended period (24 hours to 3 days) while you go about your normal routine. This longer monitoring period helps increase the chances of capturing any seizure activity, even if you don't feel it happening. Brief ictal discharges are short bursts of abnormal electrical activity in your brain that could indicate seizure activity. It's possible to have these electrical changes without feeling any noticeable symptoms - these are sometimes called subclinical seizures. This is important information for your neurologist to have, as it helps them understand your epilepsy pattern and adjust your treatment plan if needed. When you meet with your neurologist, they can explain exactly what these findings mean for your specific situation and whether any changes to your treatment plan are recommended. Be sure to write down any questions you have before your appointment.
