Levetiracetam is an antiepileptic medication that works by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain. While it has various side effects, it doesn't directly interfere with iron levels. However, managing iron levels during menstruation requires special attention.
It's important to discuss this specific concern with your healthcare provider, as they can provide personalized advice and potentially recommend appropriate iron supplements that won't interact with your epilepsy medication. Since levetiracetam can be taken with or without food, you can focus on incorporating iron-rich foods into your diet throughout the day. Remember to never adjust or stop taking levetiracetam without first consulting with your doctor, as they can help determine the best approach to managing both your epilepsy and iron levels.

I was just diagnosed with iron-deficient anemia, but not due to medications or my period; I am post-menopausal. After some testing, my doctors want me to start taking iron. A couple of things: have you been diagnosed with anemia by blood work; has a doctor told you to take iron supplements, and if so, what dosage? I would also find out if the iron will affect your AED levels or if your AED will affect your iron levels. I would discuss it with your doctor if you are worried. Just my two cents' worth.
