If I take over 500 Mgs, it makes me mean and irritable. I can't even stand myself! I have tried it twice. He still wants me on it. What do I do?

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , It sounds like you have a Neurologist but might be wanting to change. One thing you could do is look at the Neurologists that take your insurance & then when you find ones that are within the area you’re willing to travel to, go to www.google.com & type in that doctor’s name and even try their office as well, but look up reviews on the Neurologist & see if you can find reviews posted by other patients. That’s what I usually do when looking for a doctor or sometimes something totally different. That way you have an idea whether or not that doctor might possibly be good or not. I was on Keppra for 2 or 3 months & it made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & I eventually started having trouble sleeping & so I had to get off it. It was a Neurology Nurse Practitioner who I temporarily saw who had put me on it. I told her I had to get off it. It was crazy how tired it made me. I never experienced the Keppra Rage. But talk with your doctor about your concerns & any symptoms you might be experiencing & stand up for yourself because only you know exactly what you’re feeling. If you don’t like the Keppra tell them. I went to www.Google.com & read about taking Keppra with antidepressants, you can read about some information here: https://www.google.com/search?q=keppra+with+ant... . Ask questions about any concerns about taking Keppra with antidepressants. Try not to look at the number of pills you take. Try to just keep up with the fact that ok, it’s time to take your medicine, not the “number” you must take. As a kid I remember taking at least 3 different types of seizure meds but I have never made a big deal about the “number” of pills I take. Good luck. I pray things get better for you! 🤗💜🙏🤗 Your friend in Texas, Becky

If you're not sure your doctor is helping get another opinion. Novant Neurology Midtown in Charlotte takes care of me,they have several neurologists that I have been very happy with. Keppra makes me so mean it shows that I am allergic to it on my chart.

I used to be on 3000mg (1500 twice daily) keppra back when briviact didn't exist. And keppra did the same to me back then. I'm now on briviact @ 100mg (50 twice daily) doses and it seems to work well for me, and am starting to notice the irritability side effects starting to slowly wear off; plus, briviact is a derivative medication of keppra and 20x stronger than keppra.

I'm not saying don't go for Xcopri if that's what you're wanting; not at all. All I am saying is discuss the possibility of while starting Xcopri, and changing over to briviact from keppra so that body will still have something similar (I only say this because your doctor wants to keep you on keppra and up your dosage beyond what your body naturally can handle - this happened to me) and not just a complete and sudden change of prescription, that's all.
