I began taking Topamax in 1996 under the care of a wonderful epileptologist. At the time the dosage was rather high and eventually was lowered over time as we found the lower dosage worked. I began taking the generic when it became available. I'm curious if anyone has been on this medication for a long time and how they are doing with it. My current epileptologist has already been contacted. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on this question with me? I appreciate it.
I took topomax a number of years ago, it did work for me, but I found a medication that was more effective so I stopped taking it. One dangerous thing about any medication, generic medication may not be as effective, seizures may increase, brand name medication may be necessary.
It works fine for me!🥳 ( 6yrs)
Topamax really lowered both amount of seizures and cluster headaches.. ( Originally why they prescribed it) But you and your medical team will have to fine tune the dosage.. because believe me the side effects can be a bitch!
( but I did lose a lot of excess weight so every cloud has a silver lining huh😃)
Like I said topamax works great for me,
I'd recommend trying it and see how you get on? You tried 35 others so whats one more!!!😊Just remember perseverance is the key. Slowly slowly catchy monkey😂😂
And like someone else mentioned on this chat, try to find your triggers? Sleep/stress/ ect..
I wish you the best results no matter what you decide!
Keep us all informed on your progress 👍
I have been on Topamax for the last 6 months. Along with Klonopin Wafers and Gabapentin. I have tried several other combinations before that with horrible side effects. I'm happy with the Topamax, I've only had the generic so I have nothing to compare it to that way.
I've been taking Depakote and Keppra for around 5 years it's not the perfect solution for me
But it's better than nothing
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, i have been on topiramate when i was younger. I don't remember how long. But i do remember being removed from it due to headaches and drowsiness.
