Does Anyone Live By Themselves And Not Have A Job?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m 26 and live by myself, but go to my parents house every couple weeks. I’m only out with someone when my mom takes my shopping and when I’m league bowling on Monday nights. This makes me more uncomfortable and afraid of having a seizure from depression.

League bowling is fun. It gets us out of the house and we can be around friends. I’ve bowled in a league for 30 years. I only have one 300 game though.

Yes Devin I live alone, but in my case, it's by choice. When I was able to work, all was fine. But now, it does get lonesome. Not being able to get in your car and drive wherever you want to go is probably the biggest obstacle to get over. You're in your twenties, so you just have to prioritize what needs to be done and what it is that you just want. It's best to keep track of seizures as they occur. In your journal, also keep track of any side affects you note. This will help your doc.

Yes Devin I am 30 years old epileptic and live alone. However I look at it this way I rather take the chance on living life and having experiences versus being overly cautious, lonely, and bored. No matter where I am I will be affected by seizure whether physically or mentally. I started with baby steps like a walk around the track at nice a park with a good view. Good luck 🫶🏾✌🏾‼️

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member it’s hard for me to talk on the social media because I’m not good at talking from damage on the left temporal lobe, which is where most of my seizures take place, I have from a cyst from when I was 1.5 years old. I like talking in person just because I feel more comfortable.

I can emphasize for you Devin. I remember my first apartment. No one around to let me know about seizures. Or that matter, to just keep me company. I don't know about your epilepsy, but since I never got an aura, I had to deal with 'missing time'. There is a lot to get over when living alone. The biggest of which is loneliness. One thing that you have nowadays is the Internet. Without it, this site wouldn't exist. Nor would that plethora of information that is at your fingertips. Depression is a big obstacle for anyone with a disability. Give me a shout out on days that you're really down and out. I'll try to be here for you buddy.
