Thank you everybody for your personal journey on this I had EEGs done as l grew up & never liked them I found them traumising. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it, I was in hosp last Yr in Aug for 5days due to bad panic attack/seizure & l didn't come out the same mentally. This is what I'm most worried about l don't want to have that happen again. I tried to tell the consultant this but he just didn't care about this side of things for me. I'm trying to get back on my feet from all that last year l don't wish to go backwards again he doesn't live with this we do!
I’ve had inpatient EEG 4 different times. It never bothered me. I always made sure I had activities things with me .
Reading books
Puzzle , activity books
iPad / laptop computer
And other things .
While doing the inpatient EEG , expect the nursing staff to reduce your meds down by so much a day. They want you to seizure , so they can have good information, on your seizures activities and locations.
May even help them use the right type of medication, for your type of Epilepsy and seizures.
I have about 3 times in my 20's. I got some answers through my brain waves. I prefer an MRI too. But i will say, its great to relax find peace and you become aware of auras. You can also do at home EEGs too which i did also. I just colored and watched TV and met some weird fun people.
I had one at both my Dr's hospital Cork, and then my surgeon in Dublin, before I went in and had the intracranial study leading up to my surgery
You could ask if they could let you do it at home. They may let you do that. I was to do that myself, but my Topiramate was increased to the maximum dose instead. Still to see the specialist in April, to see if I’m to undergo the said test though.
