My neurologist prescribed this for me in late Nov 2023, with a dosage increase to occur weekly to reach full dose in 1 month. I only made it to week 3 and started having blurred vision and severe stomach upset/constipation. I stopped taking and have not yet been prescribed any alternative. I continue to take lamictal, since transitioning to trileptal failed.😟
Good Afternoon Becky. It sounds like you have been through a roller coaster of treatment with inconsistent success! So sorry to hear! I had liver enzyme blood work following the short Trileptal prescription period i endured, and 2/4 of the liver enzymes indicating inflammation had peaked significantly! The neurologist did not prescribe anything new but rather had me continue with my current dose of Lamotrogin and lifestyle changes. So far no seizures or auras.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I took Trileptal for probably around 12 years, give or take. My Pediatric Neurologist had started me on probably a few years or so before he had me finally start seeing an Adult Neurologist cause I saw him till I was almost 30 & I’m 45 now. There was one time I got some blurry vision & was crying for no reason at all & I had never had that weird crying episode before & at the time I was seeing my Family doctor for my seizures & meds because I didn’t have a Neurologist or something & he believed it was my Trileptal causing the problem & so he adjusted my dosage & I never had another issue like that. My current Neurologist took me off my Trileptal shortly after I began seeing her & after she had done an in hospital 5 day video EEG & she put me on Vimpat. I asked my current Neurologist why she took me off my Trileptal if I had not had many problems with it & she said that long term use of Trileptal can harm the liver. I started Depakote about the same time as my Trileptal & am still taking my Depakote with the Vimpat but around 2015 I found from a different Neurologist that I was seeing that long term use of Depakote could possibly cause Osteoporosis & so a bone density test was done & that showed I have Osteopenia in my left hip & so I’m having to take Vitamin D every day. Well, I hope they find another medication that will work for you. Sending prayers. Your friend in Texas, Becky
