Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Yes, many of us who have nocturnal seizures, known as having seizures in our sleep, can possibly bite our lips, cheeks or tongue if we have a seizure in our sleep. I can’t recall when exactly I went from having absence seizures to having mainly the seizures in my sleep but it was a good long while ago because the absence seizures occurred when I was still in grade school but I have been seeing a physical therapist for probably 9 or 10 years for my TMJ cause I grind my teeth when I sleep & so about 8 years or so ago I began wearing a mouth guard in my sleep that my regular dentist made especially to fit my mouth. They’ve made me 2 total & over time they eventually broke & since I didn’t have any insurance to go see my regular dentist I tried the over the counter ones but they were either to loose or to tight even after putting them in the warm water & molding them to fit my mouth & one tasted like rubber. So I just made due until I could see my regular dentist & eventually for the first time I had a seizure in my sleep where I bit my bottom lip really bad & it was swollen & sore & & then a few months later I guess I had another seizure in my sleep cause I woke up to find I had bitten my lip again along with my tongue & I had never bitten my tongue. I didn’t have a mouth guard & so that’s why I bit my mouth so bad during these seizures when I was sleeping. All these years that I’ve had seizures I don’t think I had ever bitten my mouth during a seizure while sleeping. In June 2023 my Medicare started & so I was able to see my regular dentist & they made me another mouth guard & that should be ready soon but insurance doesn’t cover the mouth guard & so it was expensive but I needed it. I hope you get to feeling better. Your friend in Texas, Becky
