Everything that I have read says that usually Keppra will not be prescribed for over 3000mg. My daughter is on 4000mg and other meds. She is 17 but actually the size of about a 12yr old. I don't understand , I am afraid my daughter is being over medicated

I think that's a lot for a younger person especially one that's so small. Keppra was the worst med I was on so far for seizures. I was super depressed and couldn't eat much without getting sick. Also raged alot and was super emotional. Did they just keep increasing the dose because of seizures? If shes only seeing a neurologist you may be able to ask for a referral to an endocrinologist that may be able to help lower the Keppra and work on balancing hormones if those are a trigger for your daughter. The majority of people I know with hormonal triggered seizures didn't have a great seizure reduction with Keppra. Another thing I would suggest is a graph paper notebook to track menstrual cycle, seizures, migraines, any type of poor side effects noticed with meds. I use a single page, label the month, number the columns for each day of the month add the things that come up during the month on the left and mark when the occur.Taking this with you to the Dr may help them identify windows of increased seizures so you may be able to lower dose and increase closer to seizure windows for prevention. It made a big difference in my care and helped get me get lower and lower doses of meds.

The problem is that we can't graph her seizures. She has a very rare Jeavon syndrome so all of her seizures are in her eyes and you can't see them unless you happen to be looking directly at her. She was having 12 to 15 a day, with these meds she is still having approx 5 a day. The only reason we know this is because every 3 to 4 weeks She has to stay at the hospital for overnight eeg scans

I truly think this is excessive. What are the neurologist not trying to address?!! To much of anything is bad!!!! Please try new meds, Accupuncture, meditation with Calm and a new neurologist.

When I started the keppra-topamax cocktail, It knocked me out! was bed ridden & mentally out of it for almost one year.

Please get a second opinion.

I don't know much about keppra but I know that Topamax has a maximum dose of 1600 mg but the dosage can go up to 2000-3000 mg if the person has shown signs they can easily take the maximum dose. It could possible that this is the same scenario where this person has taken the maximum dosage really well so they have maxed it out over time. There's no way I could do it though I'm only at 1000 mg of Topamax and there already worried lol.
