Epileptic And Pregnant
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just got pregnant, 4 weeks now without knowing. Will my baby come out deformed? How has anyone here being epileptic given birth? Are your babies healthy?

I was on a med that didnt have many test done yet to know if it was "safe" enough (vimpat) when my son was born 4 years ago. And hes perfectly healthy. For the safety of me and my son, they induced me at 37 weeks. I was on 3 meds vimpat keppra and one other i think Lamictal. I just had basically a weekly visit with obgyn, and either a weekly or biweekly blood draw to check my med levels becaise i would have increase seizures, so they would have to keep increasing my meds.

I was on seizure medicine when I was pregnant with my youngest and he's a genius! So don't trip so much ! There's seizure medicine that is ok to take while pregnant! Just breath girl !

Medication is never "recommended" to be on for pregnancy. Depending on the severity of the seizures you might have... it could be just as harmful to both of you to come off of them in your condition.
Talk to your doctor's and map out your best options.
If you're on a really dangerous medication for pregnancy... they'll probably take you off it right away.
I hope you and baby make it to a wonderful birth and long happy life!🥰
Blessings on this new journey. Stay positive and strong.

I was born with this illness and didn't know! I had 3 healthy beautiful girls even though I almost died giving birth to all 3 I'm still here and fighting for fids to stay alive for as long as I can!! The only thing I can tell you is to be extra careful and listen to your doctors on everything and if anything new comes up you let your doctor know right away my prayers are with you

I'm sorry that I can't give a useful opinion from your point of view, but I will bid you congratulations and wish you and yours the absolute best of luck.
