Memory Struggles.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

How much memory troubles do you have? I'm worried my memory is getting worse from meds. I am thankful the meds control the seizures. Just worried I'm going to have no memory left in ten years.

My short term memory isn’t the best. My long term memories are good. I remember things back when I was 3. I learned that playing memory games help a little. Check your App Store .

A good idea to do, is keep a notebook or a IPad/Tablet and use the reminder or note app . Write/type things that help you remember things. I use the Note app when I need groceries or something from the store. I would write a list. Sometimes I would take a pictures of something to help me remember certain things. Serial number for example. Sometimes the numbers would be so small. So I would take a picture from my phone camera and enlarge the numbers.

Before I leave a message on someone’s voicemail I would run through my mind, what I want to say.

Hope these help

Normally my memory is exceptional from what I'm told & Ive been on meds on for 54 yrs. The only times I had issues was when I was having a multitude of absence seizures, every time it was an issue of a medication being defective But once the seizures were discovered & resolved my memory issues went away.

When I started having seizures my memory took a sharp turn and I couldn’t remember things. Now I’ve been having seizures for 30 years. Things have remained the same. I’ve been on almost every medicine for seizures. So it never mattered if I was taking 10 pills or 20 pills. My memory has stayed the same since I started having seizures.

I have memory trouble too and then boom out of nothing total recall 😂 but then it fades again. Try to only focus in being in the now is say. What's important is you are happy and feel safe in this. ❤️

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Great! Amazing! Most with Epilepsy have too many factors involved in hampering memory recall: epilepsy itself, cumulative side effect of most anticonvulsant and some other medications, hampering with age , and then the topic the scientists are still debating the level, so it is not mentioned in most places -- side effects from possibly all but definitely the powerful ones cause brain damage to memory recall. And then there is the standard hampering of memory recall from age

I am glad that you are an exception.

I tend to talking with small groups at a gathering with most knowing about my epilepsy and severe brain damage to my memory recall, so they are ready to fill in the name of the celebrity or whatever after I provide most famous movies, tv shows, songs, etc.

And in other cases, I have me notes (auxiliary memory) with me.
