TSA Flying With Medication.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm flying for the first time since having epilepsy. As far as flying with medication & VNS do I HAVE to bring the original bottle, or can I bring them in a pill box ? Thanks to anyone who responds.

Hi Sara, you can bring your meds in a pill box. And as far as I remember about VNS is that when you go through security, tell them that you have the implant.

You can bring you pill box , but you may want to bring the bottles too. Then they will know that it’s a prescription and not illegal drugs. Maybe be have a Dr.s note with you .

I really don’t know of today’s flying. Last time I flew it was in 1997. I know rules have changed a lot since.

Hi Sara,
I fly on a regular basis. I have a spinal cord implant and have to take a bunch of pills. I've never had any trouble with the pill boxes full of meds or seeing the implant on the scanner. I think you will be good to go 😊

I have not traveled, but now take Epidiolex. There are separate containers that would hold a bottle and two syringes. As far as ID is concerned, I have a nice MedicAlert Bracelet and now carry a card that allows people with a cell phone camera to see all the records. EMTs, Police and Firemen are trained to look for such ID. If I were to go far, I would carru the bottles as well.

I travel quite a bit and haven’t had any probems with pill reminder boxes. I also have a medical ID necklace that I wear that says I have epilepsy and I am on meds. It says “ see med list in wallet” and lists other medical issues I have. I think when I travel it’s obvious I’m not trying to pull something over on the TSA.
