Do You Think We Would Qualify?

Do You Think We Would Qualify?

My neuro told me that Epilepsy is not a qualifying condition, but NY State released the list of who would qualify next. It says:

Beginning February 15, 2021:
Adult New Yorkers of any age with the following conditions qualify for the vaccine:

"Neurologic conditions including but not limited to Alzheimer's Disease or dementia"

We have a neurological condition, but of course it's different than dementia. I can't find any further definition. Would you go ahead and try to get an appointment… read more

Stac, that’s what I had the Pfizer and I had the same thing, just a little soreness, kinda like the bee sting or tetanus shot. I get the 2nd one at the end of this month.

I have now had both shots and no side effects from either of them, but that is the same every year when I get the flu shot as well, so I was not surprised.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member if you have any questions I may be able to answer them. I got the vaccine two days ago (Pfizer). I have had a VNS device since 2014, got it replaced in 2018. The area of the shot has been slightly sore. That's it. It feels more like a very hard bee sting lol.

I was told I could take Aleve if I experience side effects but I would ask your Nerologist since I know some seizure pills are better advised to take Ibuprofen (at least I was told for my meds).

They are talking now about possibly needing a "booster" shot after around 6 months- 1 year after your second shot.

The risks seem greater not getting the vaccine. To me personally. This vaccine may not work on all of the mutations (we do not know).

So many factors to decide and still a lot of "unknowns".

Just saw your post about being "eligible for the vaccine." Don't know how they do it in NY but the way we ended up finding vaccintion suppliers was just calling around. The AZ state website and county websites and insurance providers didn't help much at all but when I called different pharnacies I found one of our grocery store chains (Albertson's) that was offering them and glad to sign me up as long as I was qualified.

Getting my second Moderna shot in 8 days but I still rarely go out and am double masking now and carry a small spray bottle of alcohol when I do. So far I'm impressed how Gov. Coumo is doing out there. Hope you get a shot soon and have a wonderful seizure free weekend.
