Carbamazepine
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone have any experience switching off carbatrol to lamictal? Did you have seizures? They want me off 200 mg a week. Off in 4 weeks and building up on lamictal now before cutting carbatrol.

No worries. Had No heart issues, just that my seizures were uncontrolled that they switched.

Thank you. Appreciate the feedback. Did you experience heart issues? I got diagnosed with pericarditis from taking carbatrol 16 years (reason for the switch and also doesnt control seizures anymore)

I was taking carbamazepine (tegretol) but this was not controlling seizures so was switched to lamictal (lamotrogine). They did the same as they have with you and gradually decreased the tegretol while increasing the lamotrogine. I did have seizures but it is difficult to tell if that was due to the change in medication or due to my seizures being uncontrolled. On the plus side once my lamotrogine was increased my seizures became less often 😊 good luck with the switch!
