Keppra
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been taking Keppra for approximately 4 years now. I had a tonic clinic seizure in late 2014 and I increased the dose on the advice of my Neurologist. In early 2015 I started to experience Suicidal thoughts and severe anxiety, I went to see my GP and she advised me to halve the dose and also put me on a small dose of Valium to help with the anxiety etc. In 2016 I started having Absence or Complex Partiial seizures, I went back to see my Neurologist and he advised to halve the Keppra dose… read more

Keppra sucks. I had very similar experiences, when taking,it. The warning on the bottle makes me laugh. It says you may have suicidal thoughts so call your doctor. That used to kill me!!! (Yes. Pun intended) I hate Keppra. Also watch, out, they want,to keep giving you drugs upon drugs upon drugs. Its all about them getting, you some more and various prescription drugs. Its ridiculous.,the first thing I would tell you, as someone who has had epilepsy for most of my life,...go vegan.immediately.,eat a plant based diet. No meat. No dairy. No animal flesh in side your body. You wouldn't believe how healthier yo u will be. No I'm not kidding. Stop eating burgers. Eat something else. No more meat and, cheese and eggs and milk. That stuff is terrible for humans. And its also pretty bad for the animals, too

I would ask your neurologist to see if you can change your medications because the more stressed and have anxiety you can have thoughts of suicide.

It sounds like you in a similar baot like myself. I have had the brain surgery also . After my surgery, I still have seizures, but they aren’t as strong like they were before.

I have also been on many different medications and some I have been put back on. One thing I learnt from an Epilepsy conference, was that if we’ve already been on many meds , we have a 5% chance to find the right combo of meds to be fully seizure control. I’m one of those 5%’s

I had brain surgery down at Jefferson once before and was good for like a year and started having night seizures! I have been on many meds already but none have worked but just kept on Tegretol (carbamezapine) and given different with it ! ( Like, Topamax,Nueronton, phenobarbital, etc.) Had tons of tests local and in Philly!

I keep thinking the same thing! He is supposed to be the best because he is at Jefferson in Philadelphia but I keep thinking all they want me for is constant brain surgery! Not to find the cause of the seizures or which meds to take! I was on Vimpat with the carbamezapine and still had seizures! My insurance wouldn't pay for it and it was going to be 3,000 in January! So I asked how about something I can afford!? Or isn't there companies that help you with your meds like they show on TV and he said he didn't know of any! !! So frustrating!
