My neurologist added Fycompa to my lamictal and vimpat. The lamictal and vimpat combo has worked pretty well for the most part, but I’ve had a few breakthroughs and serious insomnia. My neurologist said that lamictal can cause insomnia. I had no idea. I’ve been taking it for years, but I had also been taking medication to help me sleep up until a few months ago. Fycompa is my #1 WORST seizure med. Not being dramatic, I have reasoning. Tbi in 2016 and they needed to stop the seizures so I tried 13 meds before we found one mix that works. One med was fycompa...I will say one thing -- it did stop the seizures completely, many didnt. However I took the liquid form bc it caused bruxism (teeth grinding 24/7), went to the ER 3 times because i got lock jaw, cracked 4 teeth, started walking in a hunch position which is also a side effect, lost 20+ lbs bc my teeth/jaw hurt that much. Gf of years gave me ultimatum, DAYS without speaking, I became an a°°hole. Depression and ideation and anxiety SKYROCKETED.
Stopped my seizures after I cracked my skull.... I'd rather seize than go on it again. Everyone is different of course, but idk... Just even my family protested when a Dr brought it up a couple months back.
I’m on all three and the Fycompa helped with my sleeping issues...now I sleep the best I have in years. Still have the breakthrough seizures though.
Also, I find sense of humor is key to success. Thank you so much for your input
Many of the pills for seizures can give a person suicidal thoughts. They mention that so they won't get sued if someone does do that.
One more question. My doc put me on ambien and I sleep 3 hours then wake up and I am dizzy from the Fycompa now. This is totally interfering with my job. I do not know what to do. I hate to take anything else but kind of at a loss. Antivert for dizziness? What on earth for insomnia? Good god... I feel like I’m 90 👵🏻
