What kind of side effects have you had from this medicine and does it make you gain weight?

I've been fighting with my current drs about getting my brand name Topamax. So frustrating to deal with unenlightened drs. The Dr who actually wrote my script wasn't even in my appt with me. How can someone accurately write meds if they don't have the full story. I mean, why do we spend the time with one Dr to have someone else entirely write our scripts??!! My daughter tells me I need to calm down. Any natural, non-soy suggestions? I'm at the end of my emotional rope and I'm so frustrated. Obviously no hormone or OTC solution will work or I will seize. I've already tried Wild Yam. Melatonin is out for the same reason. Has anyone had success with an OTC progesterone?

I'm about to start this one, now I'm not so sure. I am currently taking tegretol and have gained 60lbs in the past year and a half. It controlled my seizures but I think the side effects are worse than the seizures. Maybe just have to put up with the weight if I'm going to hit a brick wall.

It really didn't make me gain weight at all and I'm on 600 twice a day. Not like Depakote, where I wanted to stick my head into a bag of sugar!!!

The 3 drugs you mentioned are all the same, you just used the generic name the 2ndtime. I'm thrilled the VNS is working so well for you. Remember,.The battery for it only lasts about 10 years. You may or may not start to notice a difference in seizure coverage. If you have a good Dr. your battery is something he'll check Everytime you come in. Actually when I got my 2nd VNS it was an upgrade and better than my 1st. Good luck with your journey and God bless.
