Anyone Else Have Nightmares While Switching From Levetiracetam To Aptiom?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been trying to wean off the Levetiracetam because it aggravated my asthma, and I have had 2 nightmares thus far and trouble falling asleep at night, unless I have my fiancée(who lives across county currently) on the phone with me, than I fall asleep faster, but that was ALWAYS easier even BEFORE the decrease. With the nightmares, plus noise around the house early in the morning, I just can't get back to sleep either. In the beginning, when we started the Aptiom I had problems getting up… read more

Thank you.I actually took Lamictal at one point, but don't think it did much for me, or my mom didn't like the side effects(as I believe that was during when my mother still was coming to appointments with me), but I have kept her from coming to neurologist appointments, because she never really let me talk to the neurologist. This was the first time for me, demanding the switch on my own. Zonegran was the other possibility we were thinking of trying.

I don't understand how some of you are having problems with one medication. I take both plus one and have a VNS. My body has only gets 5hrs sleep EVERY night for the last 20yrs. And I have only bn on all of these medications for the last 8yrs.
I'm disappointed in the neurologist I have and I don't know what to do, but I'm working it out for myself.

Ah - here it is 2:53am. I'm wide awake. Maybe I should switch to the mornings with this medication. So hard to sleep all night.

That is the medicine Keppra, there are many side effects with all medicines. You should definitely ask your doctor. Please don't hesitate. Good wishes to you my friend.

Yes, it can be. I have very similar problems with Lamictal. I can't fall
asleep or stay asleep. When I do nod off I have vivid dreams and nightmares. I hope this gets better for you.
