I am 22 years old and on my 5 medication in the 1st year of my diagnosis. As the meds don't seem to be working so far I was wondering if anyone has had success with the Ketogenic diet in adults or has any suggestions?
Wonderful diet. It is very much like the Atkinsons diet. 4 of our great doctors, Profs and a sports scientist came together to write a book called Banting - once again, based on the Atkinsons. High fat and no carbs. Fat give energy and carbs on the other hand gives sugar. Dr Tim Noaks puts it beautifully - ' you can still have a piece of cake or chocolate in between'.
Hunger, dehydration and carbs has a 100% chance of an attack.
My mom tried to get me to do it, but my doctor said it wasn't really worth it. If you are in a state that allows medical marijuana or oils, that is definitely something to try out. Changing medications can be a bitch, but there's one out there that will finally lift the worry of daily epilepsy affecting your life.
After my diagnosis my docs went thru my history and found that my "healthiest issue free year" was 2011 - I was on South Beach diet eating lower carbs maybe a coincidence maybe not - as soon as my doc clears me for diet change in going to try it
You can research the ketogenic diet on Wikipedia.com
I've heard of the diet but my doctor never brought it up
I know that a ketogenic diet has been shown to work for children, any adults here have luck with it?
