I am in a Physical Therapy Assistant program and I am considering getting a VNS. I am just worried how I am going to explain my voice possibly getting deeper every few minutes to them. They don't need to know my life story but I don't want them to think I'm mocking them. I have three clinicals that are part of my program so I get graded on performance. Even if you work somewhere else how would you handle that kind of situation?

Hi there I had the same problem when I had my VNS implant done. My voice was normal for for a short while and then it went deep which is the side effect of the VNS. I kept going backwards and forwards to see my specialist and gradually he turned down the settings on my implant. Now you can hardly notice that it is there as my voice etc has got used to the settings that they have done. Just don't worry about it.

Hi I had VNS surgery 4 years ago & to begin with the 'horseness' in my voice was noticed for a while,i met new friends & they didn't even pick up on it. I've not ever had any problems & explaining it to people I love it lol, they think how amazing it is.

I had a VNS and it burned the left side of my vocal cords and now my left side vocal cords don't work at all. I would get it checked out ASAP!! If you are thinking about getting one please be careful and do your research!! My voice now sounds funny but I can still talk. I had mine removed because I didn't want to take the chance of loosing my voice entirely..
