Overview
Depacon is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat several types of seizures. In some situations, Depacon is used as a monotherapy, but in some cases Depacon is used as an adjunctive therapy along with other medications. Depacon is also referred to by its drug name, Valproate sodium.

Depacon is an anticonvulsant, or drug that is used to control seizures. It is believed that Depacon works in cases of epilepsy by inhibiting nerve signals.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Depacon is administered as an intravenous infusion.

Depacon comes in a single-dose vial.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Depacon lists common side effects including headache, drowsiness, dizziness, tremors, weakness, numbness or tingling of the skin, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and injection site reactions.

Rare but serious side effects listed for Depacon include life-threatening liver failure and pancreatitis.
