I've had juvenile myoclonoic epilepsy for about 4 years now and have only had 2 grand mal seizures. I take 200 mg of lamotrigine daily, but was previously on 1250 mg of valproic acid. When I was first diagnosed, my neurologist said she'd only recommend having 2 drinks max. I'm in university right now and the temptation to drink is very high. I have been getting pretty drunk going out partying, including nights where i have about 13 drinks (I'm 200 lbs). I have… read more
I was taking valproic acid for 4 years and I noticed my hair starting to go (I'm only 21). My neurologist said it was a rare side effect of the drug. I've recently switched to lamotrigine to reverse these effects, but I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing with valproic acid, or if my hair is just falling out naturally.
In the U.K. this lunch time on the news was a item on the ban of Sodium Valproate ([[treatment:Epilim):5886968c6b4dcc620a53edf9]]). Because of the dangers of it. They said go to G.P. if you are worried if you can look at the news on the internet I.T.N. news and it was on that.
Anyone ever have any kind of shock sensation go down their arms. Mine went down the right arm. I just started valproic acid 250 mg twice a day 2 weeks ago plus topamax 3 times a day 100 mg which i have been on for 8 yrs. Im not sure if it was a seizure or aura. But i think it may have been as it took me a few seconds to find the right words i wanted to say to my boyfriend to explain the experience. What do you think.
Hi I will be starting a medication switch over soon - adding Keppra to my Sodium Valporate/Lamotrigine combination and then will be weaned off sod val in order to prepare me for pregnancy as sodium valporate is harmful to a baby in pregnancy.
I’m wondering if anyone here has been through this/similar and what were your experiences?
I had my first grand mal at 13, and around 20 other grand mals up until I was 15. EEG normal. Since then… read more
Has anyone experienced this? I currently take both for my Generalized Tonic Clonic Epilepsy, and shortly i will be going off my tegretol. Last year when I did it I was on tegretol and Lamotrigine and about six weeks after my last dose of tegretol I had a very bad Tonic-Clonic seizure (lasted almost 5 minutes). Thank god my partner was here and I had to go to hospital. the next time was a month after and I gave myself a concussion and shoulder injury because it… read more
Hello I suffer with complex partial seizures, had brain surgery in 1993 and Vns fitted in 2014, not very successful and still having seizures. I've been prescribed co-codamol for pain relief, but worried there may be interactions with my AEDS as I'm very sensitive to drugs & tried all! At the moment on 700mg twice a day-sodium valproate (epilim chrono) 300mg twice a day tegretol retard, turmeric 500mg twice a day,vit B6 15mg X 1 and 10mg clobazam as and when… read more
I recently went to see my specialist nurse (she's not particularly good) she previously wrote to my GP telling him to gradually increasing my lamotrigine, I have 5mg working for the 200mg I was on before. She did not listen to me nor read my notes before I was on Sodium Valprate which I had previously (1200mg twice daily) and it did not work which she still wants to try, she's told me I am not having my absences anymore then said I am. She wrote down that I was having convulsants 1 a fortnight yet the… read more
Hi Ian currently on 2000mg of sodium valproate a day I can sleep quite a lot.
It now appears work are trying to make me feel like I am not listening and my work standard has dropped. They want to send me back to OH.
What is you personal experience with Valporic Acid? I am interested in what you have actually experienced and not what MedMD or pharamcist says. The neuro wants to add this med to my cocktail and I am super Leary. Wondering if all the cautions and side effects listed are actually experienced or just the drug company covering their behinds.
