Music is my trigger. I know I'm going to have one when everything turns white and I can't see anything or it is so painful I actually start crying. I can still walk and have my awareness so I can leave the environment quickly. I always stay by the door so I know where I am when I can't see anything. If I leave the environment quickly enough, it stops immediately. I can handle stress pretty well, but when I start having trouble with balance, I sit down and have to take a little medicine and… read more

Rather than dealing with your triggers, I'd like to broach another topic that you discuss, that be driving. You write "I have trouble driving if...". You SHOULD NOT be driving if you are having uncontrolled seizures. If you don't want to listen to your doctor, then take it from someone with first-hand experience. I had a seizure while driving a few decades back. I had my face rearranged after my skull hit the steering wheel & my jawbone snapped in two. They were able to wire my jaws shut and thank God, in time(months?), it healed. To this day, if I bite the wrong way, my jaw clicks. I also have a permeant limp after breaking my ankle in two...it was just dangling by skin and muscle. My doctors say that I was lucky: if my head was an inch lower when it hit the wheel, then my cranium would have crushed my brain. You would be better off playing Keno or slots than risking your life just to get to the store without walking.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I've learned to keep salt packets on you. If you feel like you are about to have a seizure, like when you get your aura. Throw the salt packet in your mouth and chew. What it does is it shocks your taste buds and it will help you stop from having a seizure before it starts. It has to be done during your aura though.
Hallo .. William and Jen here .. we use deep breathing techniques .. taking deep breath ., hold a bit .. let all the air go out slow .. take another.. repeat .. this help especially with auras ., which also be seizures .. and often come before bigger seizure .. this technique bring more oxygen in and that help heart and brain ., sometime when we get under stress we tend to hold our breath ., and that decrease oxygen we take in ., causing anxiety ., all of this can prompt a seizure .. we can often stop an aura .. and then no other seizure follow ., another good thing be this relax you so much you may fall asleep .. and as not enough sleep can cause seizure ., this be a good thing ..as I be having 90 percent nocturnal seizures ., so there be no aura .. as mine are mostly focal aware ., Jen can coach me to breathe deep .. this can break the seizure strength and it pass quicker.. also for those who have no aura .. sometime just feeling off before seizure strike .. deep breathing can help you to relax and may ease the approaching seizure ., may even stop it .. relaxing techniques work well to ease stress.. which be a chief cause of all seizures .. hugs and prayers from William and Jen 💜💙
Thank you for the hug
As a Researcher in Epileptic Triggers and Auras,
I have always told people to learn their triggers.
Doing so, when you know what your triggers are, you can then learn how to avoid them.
By avoiding a trigger, you will be less likely to have a seizure from that trigger.
Avoiding a trigger is not meant to control seizures. They are an extra arsonal in helping to stop seizures from happening.
For every type of seizure regardless the type and size, there is a trigger behind it that will cause the seizure to start.
For example,
If the Epileptic Trigger that you have is HEAT that is causing the seizures, you must learn how to avoid the trigger. By learning how to avoid HEAT, you will be less likely to have a seizure from that trigger.
