Members rallied around a post about a prescription prior authorization falling through the cracks at a neurology office, sharing their own frustrating experiences with similar situations. Several members offered practical advice, including asking the pharmacy to dispense a few days' supply to bridge the gap until approval comes through, calling for refills 2 to 3 weeks early, and advocating directly with office staff to ensure backup doctors can authorize prescriptions. A recurring theme was the emotional exhaustion of managing medications with epilepsy while navigating insurance hurdles, understaffed offices, and automated systems, with many members expressing solidarity and encouragement.

I thought u were going to give the other dr a chance anyway. But ur so right about it shouldn’t have happened. I have to remind my pharmacist every time to send the prescription renewal for the real rx every time. It’s so frustrating. I can usually get them to give me a few days worth to hold me over until all the paperwork gets approved. But I agree Quinn, it should never happen. I have to go through the pharmacy so it’s a little more understandable, but not much. And since ur dr office has plenty of other drs, they should have caught it a few weeks b4 u ran out. Ask the pharmacy if they can give u some to tide u over until the paperwork goes through. They’re usually pretty understanding about it especially if u use the same pharmacy all the time. And then when ur script goes through, they just subtract the amount they gave u from ur first refill. Good luck. But I would definitely ask the pharmacy to tide u over until everything is done and approved

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member That is terrible. It seems like they more about the money, than you getting treatment.

I was taking one Muscle Relaxant you could oharmacnly take 12 hours apart. AM and PM. i called the pharmacy and was told they did not tell me about the need for Prior Authorization.. The Pharmacy let the Doctor know, and this can be taken 4 times a day, 6 hours apart. If I had to wait 3 1/2 hours to take the other, my back would hurt more for longer. I changed another medication because they both dry me out. That may be why I have been itching so badly.
