The process to switch from Keppra to Depakote is to continue 2000 mg of Keppra and add 1000 mg of Depakote. After 3 weeks, I take bloodwork to determine Depakote levels in my blood. If the drug is at therapeutic level, doctor will begin weaning me off Keppra. Five days in and I'm a mess, but hopeful new drug will work with less side effects. Any thoughts are welcomed.

Members responding to the post about switching from Keppra to Depakote shared a wide range of personal experiences with both medications, offering both caution and encouragement. Several members warned about Depakote's potential for significant weight gain, with some reporting 25 to 65 pounds gained, and one long-term member noted the risk of Osteopenia with extended use. A recurring theme was that medication responses vary greatly from person to person, and many encouraged open communication with doctors about side effects, with several sharing that advocating for themselves led to better treatment outcomes.

Thru my experience of changing one med to another.
Every week my previous medication goes down so much . The other med would increase..

By the end of the month I would be fully off my previous drug and on my new meds.

When I was put on keppra I started at 2000 mg & about 6 months later my Dr brought me up to 3000 twice daily I started missing work sleeping all day long anyone bothered me I just blew up & as the medicine built up in my system I got worse I was just lucky enough to realize I was going off the handle with stupid issues popping up in my life & I told my Dr that I was realizing that my temper was starting to out of control the thing that blows my mind the Dr at the time keppra was just put on the market instead of switching the medicine to something else wasn't so hard on me he raised me once again I took it again the way he wanted me to it was about another 2 months of the liquid hell & I was in the kitchen making something to eat & I put something on the sandwich like mustard or something like that can't remember but I remember this moment because that's when I lost it I snapped & threw everything in the front of me & after that moment I realized my temper is out of control that's when I seen my Dr like a week later & told him straight out I wasn't taking the medicine anymore he didn't like that but life's a bit** like I said to his face you are not going through the mood changes you are not throwing everything in front of you for no apparent reason it's going to come to the moment it could take my own life or something stupid to someone else around me because of this medication & then I came out & said I'm not a fkn Ginny pig so take me off this shit or I'll do it myself he didn't like that & said to me I'm your Dr you don't want to listen to me maybe you should find another physician I laughed & said so you want me to see another Dr all because you lose out with the payback you're receiving from the corporation ? Naturally he didn't like that at all & said it was a insult I laughed & said it's a fkn insult that you have no idea of the reaction of the medication on my body my system I stopped the medication & stopped seeing the Dr now my Dr works with me not against me it was a situation I never want to be going through again in my life now in the first week of taking any new medications & if I'm feeling the change of sleep anger I give the Drs the reaction s I'm going through & if they don't want to straten anything out with the reaction I'll slowly take myself off of the meds & tell them straight out my body was not agreeing to it even I was on a seizure med for the longest time & all of a sudden seizures started all over so it's your own body telling you this isn't working . & 90% of the time meds aren't working the way they're Sapose to be your laying back in the hospital like I am it's not a very fun life but you just have to go day by day & live with the frustration of epilepsy 🙏🙏💜💜💜💜💜💜
