Ach .. this be William .. I be agreeing with Nathan .. Keppra be nearly the death of me.. as I be found to be violently allergic .. so nauseated whilst trying to take it I projectile vomit it back up .. Keppra completely destroy desire to put anything in my mouth .. even the mere thought of trying to take it make me gag .. I canna attest to side effects as I could not be even keeping it down.. I be thankful to be continued on Lamotrogine.. ach .. sadly there be times we all do be feeling akin to lab rats being fed these meds to see what they will do.. this be one med I be absolutely totally recommending avoidance of .. Keppra is a nasty one. It produces extreme agitation, and mood instability. I was only on it for a short time because I was allergic.

What are the side effects of Keppra (levetiracetam)?

Keppra is generally well-tolerated, but like any medication, it can come with some side effects. Here's a summary of what to watch for:

Weight Changes
- Keppra is considered "weight-neutral," meaning it usually doesn't affect weight
- Some people do report weight loss or gain, though this is not common
- Mood changes from Keppra can sometimes lead to increased food cravings

Mood & Behavior
- Depression, anxiety, or mood swings can occur
- Some members have described it as difficult to manage emotionally

Other Reported Side Effects
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Balance issues or dizziness
- Memory problems
- Hair loss
- Changes in taste (food tasting bland or different)

A MyEpilepsyTeam member shared that after communicating side effects like head jerking, balance issues, nausea, and poor memory to their neurologist, a small dose adjustment made a significant difference.

Always talk to your neurologist if side effects feel unmanageable β€” sometimes a small dose tweak can go a long way! Never adjust your dose on your own though, as that could increase seizure risk. Drug Interactions to Be Aware Of

Keppra can interact with several substances, including:

- Alcohol
- Energy drinks or large amounts of caffeine
- Other anti-seizure medications
- Antihistamines (allergy medications)
- Antidepressants or antipsychotics
- Cannabis
- Opioids
- Certain supplements like Ginkgo

Always check with your healthcare provider before adding any new medication, supplement, or even beverage to your routine.

That's how it affected me when 1st tried on it, I no longer have it as bad to where I need to get off it. I will admit I some times occasionally have 1, will catch it from not being as bad.
