When it comes to managing epilepsy, what you drink can actually make a difference. The good news is that tea can be a great option β€” as long as you choose wisely! Here are some tea recommendations to consider:

- Green tea is often highlighted as a solid go-to, especially in moderation, as it contains less caffeine than coffee or energy drinks
- Decaffeinated teas of any variety are a safe and popular choice, since caffeine can lower your seizure threshold
- Herbal teas (caffeine-free options) can be a calming alternative, though it's worth checking with your doctor first, as some herbs can interact with anti-seizure medications

A MyEpilepsyTeam member shared that they avoid anything with caffeine entirely, noting it can create triggers that lead to seizures β€” especially for those taking Keppra (levetiracetam).

Staying well hydrated is also key, as dehydration is a known seizure trigger. Tea can contribute to your fluid intake, but water should still be your main source of hydration.

Always check with your neurologist before adding new herbal teas or supplements to your routine, just to be safe!

I'm taking Keppra and I drank coffee or tea, thankfully I had no seizures due to that. I did have to stop drinking caffeinated coffee due to high blood pressure.
