I wanted to ask has anyone been able to drive who has seizures if yes how does it feel? Because I’m past the 6 month mark but I’m also questioning stuff with the driving I’ll admit I’m nervous but me also going 6 months without a Gran Mal Seizure something seems off I feel like one should be happening but I don’t know and I don’t see my neurologist till September so I ain’t sure what I should think or do I at times read the drivers manual but still nervous with it.

Members shared a wide range of experiences in response to the question about driving with seizures, from those who have driven confidently for decades to others who have never been able to drive at all. Several members offered practical tips like starting with short distances, skipping driving on days you feel off, and checking your state's laws and doctor's approval before getting behind the wheel. A recurring theme was learning to recognize personal warning signs called auras, building confidence gradually, and giving yourself grace no matter where you are in your epilepsy journey.

I've driven my entire life (47 yrs). I've never had an accident due to a Grand-Mal.
If you're stressing because you're afraid of a seizure occurring, then drive only short distances at first and then increase as you get comfortable. Otherwise if you're comfortable with driving regular, go for it.

If I feel funky, I just don't drive that day until I feel better, or if I must, only places I consider essential. Church, Rx, and Grocery.
For me Church is 3.5 miles from me. I figure I'm safe as I know God won't take me when I'm going to see Him. :) 🙂 But you get the picture.
Do you get an aura? I get an aura prior to having a Grand-Mal. So, if I feel really funky, I pull off and rest, then continue. But that doesn't happen much anymore.

I hope that helps

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member & @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I appreciate both your answers and thanks for the honest feedback on this because I’m very worried about even trying to get it but also trying to not drop my guard that I know a seizure will possibly show when I least expect it so it’s been very concerning and just a wonder as to why hasn’t one even tried yet since they usually have at least 1 or 2 every 2-3 months

Years go when I had a car, I could drive with no problem. I feel like a normal human with not a care in the world. I really enjoyed driving. No, I wasn't nervous either. It felt GREAT!

It is possible getting your license just as long as you can seizure free.
It’s best to check with the laws of your state. It’s also up to your doctor whether or not you can drive
