Members connected over the experience of navigating blood work requirements for epilepsy medications, sharing how fasting rules, timing, and what gets tested can vary depending on the doctor and what is being checked. Several members shared helpful habits like scheduling blood draws a week before specialist visits, fasting 10 to 12 hours beforehand, going early in the morning, and sending results to all doctors involved in their care. A recurring theme was the importance of asking questions, taking notes to manage memory challenges, and watching diet to help improve cholesterol and other lab results over time.

I have blood work done once a year. Some levels are checked every time others are checked maybe every other year just to be safe. I'm instructed to fast 10 hours before (can only have black coffee and water) and take meds as usual.

Once you reach over 40 or so, they check other things as well to try and prevent/avoid other comorbid diseases, etc.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, I was told that I had high cholesterol level, so I stopped eating pastry and greasy foods, and I use proactive margarine, it has improved over few months, I hope you're feeling okay 🙏.

When I have to Fast, I bring a lot of water and fruit, possibly an egg or a PBJ sandwich. One time I had my bloods drawn at 9 AM or so. My Appointment with the Doctor was at 2. I have taken the Generic Briviact for over 2 weeks, need to arrange a Blood Draw.
