Wedding reception alternatives for people with epilepsy? I know DJs with lights are popular but I have photosensitivity so that will not work. Does anybody know of some popular alternatives.

Planning a wedding reception with photosensitive epilepsy in mind is such a thoughtful idea — and there are plenty of beautiful alternatives to strobing DJ lights that can keep the celebration safe and still magical!

Here are some ideas to consider:

- Warm string lights or fairy lights — soft, steady glow with no flickering
- Candles or LED candles — romantic and seizure-friendly (just avoid flickering flame effects)
- Uplighting with static colors — venues can use colored lights that don't flash or strobe
- Lanterns or paper luminaries — gorgeous for outdoor or indoor receptions
- Spotlighting on a dance floor — steady, non-moving light focused on key areas
- Natural lighting — daytime receptions with lots of natural light can be stunning

When booking a venue or DJ, ask specifically that no strobe lights, flickering effects, or rapid light changes be used. Most DJs are happy to accommodate this request.

It's also worth letting close family and friends know about the lighting needs ahead of time, so everyone can help ensure the environment stays comfortable and safe throughout the event.
