A parent seeking guidance on DBS brain surgery for their child with hard-to-manage epilepsy received meaningful responses from community members who had personal experience with VNS, RNS, and DBS devices. Several members shared mixed results, with one noting the VNS worsened their seizures, while another shared that DBS helped reduce seizure frequency even though seizures did not stop completely, and described a recovery that went well over several months. A recurring theme was the importance of discussing the risks, pros, and cons thoroughly with the doctor, trusting their professional judgment, and making a decision with confidence knowing you are acting in your child's best interest.

Alberto the DBS go approve by the FDA for Epilepsy in 2018. But it’s been around for a long time. It was used for Parkinson’s disease.
