Members shared a wide range of experiences about how they feel after a seizure, with the most common themes being exhaustion, confusion, depression, and brain fog that can last from minutes to several days. Several members noted that recovery time depends heavily on seizure type, with grand mal or tonic clonic seizures often requiring the most rest, and one member shared that a VNS device shortened their recovery from days down to just minutes. A recurring theme was that many members have no awareness of their seizures at all and only learn they had one when told by someone nearby.

I feel tired, drained of all energy. It takes me a day or two of rest to recover.

Hallo .. for me William .. how I be feeling after a seizure depends on the seizure I be having .. and I be having many types.. here be the three worst ...
1) tonic clonic preceded by scream aura .. this be rare for me.. brought on by extreme stress ., and always I get scream aura like a banshee .. just before I scream I be feeling intense fear and shaking chills ., I reach out for my wife Jen who helps me to floor or ground .. she take both my hands and .. I be gone into seizure .. she time it and send for ambulance if It go over 3 minutes .. cause by experience she be knowing I be needing O2 and rescue med to stop .. after I need from a couple hours to a week to get back to who I be .. as of today last one of these I have be 2 weeks before Christmas when failure of pacemaker stop my heart .. so I be almost to 6 month mark now without this seizure ..thanks be to God!๐Ÿ•Š
2) second seizure be CIRE .. cold induced reflex epilepsy.. these be focal aware seizures where I am fully awake and suffering intense shaking chills called rigours ., these go on until I am warmed.. as my brain cannot maintain my body temp .. they be caused and worsened by temp extremes and fall in barometric pressure such as before and during storms .. for me these be worse in cold weather .. although going into AC in summer unprepared with a jacket or hoodie will trigger one .. once Jen get me warm they stop .. post ictal be brutal as I have med weakened bones tbat crack or even break during these seizures .. and when they be finally over I may sleep from exhaustion for hours .. even days .. they leave me too weak even to lift my head or use my hands ..
3) third seizure be nocturnal .. I be totally unaware until it be over .. as I sleep right through .. I suffer LTL ictal asystole.. this be very rare .. that be a good thing because this be a life threatening seizure type .. which flatlines my heart ., withot promt CPR by my wife Jen .. I be dead and remain so .. at this point someone will ask why not use defibrillator? Answer be simple .. as there be nothing to shock .. defib causes erratic heart to beat in proper rhythm .. with ictal asystole seizure heart stops .. there IS NO BEAT .. CPR be meeded to restore life to patient by restoring the beat ..as you probably think now .. what I experience is a code blue .. and you be right .. if heart not be restarted by 10 minutes ., brain death occurs .. and yes I have coded many, many times .. twice during my leg amputation surgery.. they be pumping me full of rescue AEDs during that to prevent seizures.. and it took a bit longer to recover from all that .. and a full year of the hardest work ever I do to walk again .. Jen and me thank God each morn we wake together that here I still be! .. hugs and prayers from William and Jen๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ•Š

I almost never know that I've had a seizure unless there is someone there to tell me. However after one I'm usually tired and sometimes have a very bad headache that lasts for hours.
