Has CBD or any type of cannabis helped with seizures, and which types?

CBD has shown promise in helping certain types of epilepsy, particularly severe or treatment-resistant forms. The FDA approved Epidiolex (a prescription CBD oral solution) in 2018 for specific seizure disorders in people ages 2 and up.

CBD has been most effective for:

- Dravet syndrome - Clinical trials show CBD reduces seizure frequency, with benefits lasting 3-4 years in some cases
- Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) - Studies demonstrate reduced seizure frequency with CBD treatment
- Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) - Research shows CBD can reduce TSC-related seizures by nearly 50%, with benefits potentially lasting up to 6 years
- Febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES) - Some studies suggest CBD may help, though it's not yet an approved treatment for this condition

There's also growing evidence that CBD may help with focal onset seizures. One study found a 55% decrease in focal seizures among participants using CBD.

Important considerations:

CBD is generally recommended as an add-on treatment alongside other anti-seizure medications, not as a replacement. It's also worth noting that research on more common forms of epilepsy is still limited, and studies haven't found clear benefits for focal epilepsy in some trials.

Always discuss CBD treatment options with your neurologist, as prescription CBD (like Epidiolex) differs significantly from over-the-counter products in terms of quality, safety, and effectiveness.

I have a 7 year old grandson that at the age of 2 was diagnosed with epilepsy due to vaccines injury. He tried 2 different medication keppra and Depproke. Neither one worked very well. We are doing our own research and are using CBD full spectrum oil, along with black seed oil, and lions maines. His seizers have downsizes 1-2 a week from 6-8.
