Are you wondering why your Keppra levels couldn't be tested?
Yes, blood tests can be used to check Keppra (levetiracetam) levels to see how well the medication is being absorbed in your body. This monitoring is especially useful when starting a new medication or if you're experiencing new side effects.
If the nurse said they couldn't test you, there could be a few reasons:
- The lab may not have been set up to run that specific test
- Your doctor may not have ordered the right type of blood work
- There might have been a timing issue with when the blood was drawn
It's worth calling your doctor's office to clarify what happened. Ask them specifically:
- Was the Keppra level test actually ordered?
- Does their lab perform this test, or does it need to be sent elsewhere?
- When should you reschedule if the test is still needed?
Your doctor uses these levels to make sure you're getting the right dose and to check if side effects might be related to medication absorption.

When I first started they continued doing 6 monthly checks I needed this as standard fo my old med Tegretol. This went on for about 2 years but as of now its only 12 months. I was meant to have one before my next appointment but I'm not 100% on that. The Neurologist can order it anyway if they want me to have one or I wait until June.
