Has anyone experienced loss of smell before having a brain tumor removed?
Loss of smell can occur as an unusual sensory symptom related to seizure activity. Some people experience unusual smells or tastes as part of an aura, which is actually a type of focal aware seizure that can happen before a larger seizure occurs.
These sensory changes are considered warning signs and can include:
* Unusual or phantom smells
* Strange tastes
* Visual disturbances
* Feelings of déjà vu
* Tingling or numbness
MyEpilepsyTeam members have shared experiences with smell-related auras. One member mentioned smelling cardboard before having a grand mal seizure, with only about two seconds between noticing the smell and the seizure starting.
If you're experiencing changes in your sense of smell along with other symptoms, it's important to discuss this with your neurologist. These sensory changes can be part of your seizure pattern and may help your medical team better understand and manage your epilepsy.

Last night my daughter cooked cabbage with onions and pork chops. For some reason I didn't like the taste of the onions and cabbage, nor the chops. They both tasted bitter.

The taste part didn't bother me. I never liked onions or green peppers. Now I'll eat any vegetables at any time so I look at the bright side.

I lost my sense of smell and taste over 10 years ago.
