Is it normal to not remember being in a behavioral health facility for a week?
Memory issues can definitely occur with epilepsy, especially after seizures or during certain seizure types. Some people experience memory gaps or confusion following seizure activity, which could explain not remembering a hospital stay.
Focal impaired awareness seizures, for example, can cause people to not remember what happened during the seizure itself. Additionally, some individuals with epilepsy report short-term memory problems as part of their condition or related to treatments.
If you were having frequent seizures during that time, or if you experienced a particularly severe seizure episode, memory loss around that period could be related. Post-seizure confusion and fatigue can last for hours or even longer in some cases.
It's important to talk with your neurologist about this memory gap. They can review what happened during that time and help you understand whether this is related to your epilepsy, seizure activity, or other factors. Keeping a seizure diary going forward can help track any future memory issues or gaps.
This kind of memory concern is worth discussing with your healthcare team so they can provide proper support and monitoring.
