Have you experienced random falling after a seizure and can't remember how you fell until later?

Yes, this is a common experience for people with epilepsy. Memory loss around seizures is normal, and many people don't remember falling or what happened during the event.

Certain seizure types are especially linked to sudden falls:

- Atonic seizures (drop attacks) cause sudden loss of muscle tone, making you collapse without warning
- Tonic seizures cause body stiffening that can make you fall over
- Tonic-clonic seizures can also lead to falls due to loss of consciousness and muscle control

The memory gap happens because during a seizure, your brain temporarily loses normal function. You might not be able to form memories of the event itself or the moments right before and after.

MyEpilepsyTeam members have shared similar experiences. One member described having drop attacks where they fall backward without warning. Others have mentioned hitting walls, furniture, or the ground during falls and not remembering the details until later.

If you're experiencing frequent falls, talk with your neurologist about protective measures like helmets or adjusting your medication to reduce seizure frequency.

I don't remember anything from my seizures. I will always fall, but not know why I fell to the floor.

I am Partial Awareness, so only fell last November because my Dentist pulled a tooth. I thought she meant do not eat (which would be bad for me) but drank juices, milk, broth etc. I did not eat soft things like yogurt or cottage cheese. So I was in the bathroom and fell on the left side. My eyeglasses were damaged. We have no Liability Insurance here. A member of the Staff called the ambulance, but I did also. It was almost 9, so I took meds at 8:45 or so. i got out at 5:30 AM. They got an Uber so I could get home.
