Has anyone experienced memory improvement after deep brain stimulation (DBS)?

While DBS has shown benefits for seizure reduction in people with medication-resistant focal epilepsy, the available information doesn't specifically address memory improvement as an outcome. About 50 percent of people who undergo DBS treatment experience fewer seizures, and some report that seizures are less severe.

Since better seizure control can indirectly help with memory problems, it's possible that reducing seizure frequency through DBS might have a positive effect on memory. However, there isn't specific data available about DBS directly improving memory function.

If you're considering DBS or have questions about how it might affect your memory, it would be worth discussing this directly with your neurologist or epilepsy specialist. They can provide personalized information based on your specific situation and the latest research.

You might also find it helpful to connect with others on MyEpilepsyTeam who have undergone DBS to hear about their personal experiences with the procedure and any changes they've noticed.

Ann, many people with Epilepsy have issues with memory. I was eventually diagnosed with a significant Learning Disability. I did not learn to subtract because I did not learn how to add. As an Adult, they determined my memory is very poor. If given a task, I did not carry it out consitently and well. i was premature, they think a lack of Oxygen may have caused them.
