Members responded to a question about Zarontin (ethosuximide) for seizures, with many sharing that they had taken it, mostly for absence seizures, and found it quite effective, especially during childhood. Several members noted some drawbacks, including weight gain, high cost even for the generic version, and in one case, mental health side effects that required stopping the medication. A recurring theme was that Zarontin worked well for some members when young but was less effective when tried again as adults, and many encouraged the original poster to stay in close contact with their neurologist about any concerns.

It worked great for me from 5yrs old to 12 when the doctor figured I had outgrown epilepsy but I hadn't. I was a bit chunky for a little while 3 and 4 grade. But I was so active it got rid of it. I was put on it again as an adult in my 30s and late 50s each time it didnt work for me. It was also a bit expensive which I found to be ridiculous for an old drug and I was on generic too.
