I did the biting of my tongue more than I can count when having seizures in my teenage years. I remember going through the motions of not being able to eat much due to the damage that was done to the tongue as well.
The care I had to go through was using ice chips to suck on as I preferred them over the small cubes. After every meal I would do a gentle gargle with warm salt water to rid the excess food and drink.
Hope the above information helps.

I found that Oragel helps to heal it, and yes, I had many REALLY BAD times. I finally had my brain surgery and was able to retire the oragel for the last time! I am now more then 11 years seizure-free. You can do this don't give up.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I don’t remember if I’ve told you before, but I wear a mouth guard when I sleep that my dentist makes specifically to fit me, because I have TMJ & grind my teeth when I sleep. A few years ago I didn’t have any insurance & during that time my mouth guard broke & the over the counter ones were too loose & so for a little while I didn’t have a mouth guard & I had a seizure in my sleep & bit my bottom left side of my lip & it was swollen, numb & it hurt so bad that I went to see my Family doctor & all she could recommend was putting ice on it. Then a few days later, I had another seizure in my sleep & that time I bit my tongue. That sure made me appreciate my mouth guards even more, by knowing that they try to help protect my mouth when I grind my teeth when I sleep, but the mouth guards also protect my mouth if I have a seizure in my sleep. You might ask your dentist how much it might cost to get a mouth guard made specifically for you. It’s worth it, I will say that. I hope you get to feeling better soon & your mouth heals soon. 🤗💜🙏🤗 Your friend in Texas, Becky
