I’ve heard for so long, “ I have epilepsy, but it doesn’t have me.”
That’s catchy, but if we are honest, is it really true?
Frankly, I’m not a fan of facades. Epilepsy completely changed my life, so therefore it has me. I don’t have a career bc of epileptic limitations, so many ways my life has been defined by epilepsy.
Is anyone else honest enough to admit that?

Yes definitely. In the last two years since epilepsy was diagnosed and meds started, my energy levels and cognitive problems and balance issues have completely tanked. I’m nothing like I used to be. I just had cognitive testing. I still have the thinking part of my brain that I’ve always had, but the part of my brain that I need to use and access that information is running at 2-10% below the rest of the population. So all I can do is sit here and think about the things I used to do and want to do and wish I could do. It’s incredibly sad and frustrating. I hear you.

I always said used, “ I Control my Life, Not Epilepsy . Epilepsy throw obstacles in the way.” .

So I make my decisions, .whether they are smart or dumb decisions . But I choose and decide , not Epilepsy.

I've had it since I was 4. I've had a bit of a up and down run. Tbh I always think the more negative you think about it the worse things can likely get. So, the best thing to do is to adapt learn how to lessen the risk of seizures happening and just live life. So yes, I think the saying is great for most cases, obviously it would be different with some.

i can agree with you on this. many people want to push that positive idea but yes in a way it does have you. i have to constantly pay attention to how i feel. change my routine. and sometimes it has caused frustrations when i tell people i have to get to bed. i want to stay up and continue to enjoy the company. i want to go to certain social gatherings but sometimes i cant because its too late. and i know how it will effect mee the next day. and when i have projects or things i want to get done i cant because of the timeframe. i has changed how i handle things significantly. and it has added new wrries into my life that i wouldnt wish on anyone.

I have had many limitations in my life because of Epilepsy. Too many to name. I would rather have been able to go to school and have a career than be on Social Security Disability!
