If you notice that you're having a seizure everytime you have chocolate... first... don't have anymore chocolate. If you do have some... it's like you're asking to have another seizure. You should also consult with your doctor about it.
I know... if all I had to do was not eat chocolate to be able to get rid of my seizures... I'm all there (I might think twice if it were other foods though).๐Ÿ˜‹

With chocolate having caffeine, it will trigger my seizures. Along with sodas and energy drinks are off the list for me.

That's how my daughter is. She is 13 and has been diagnosed as rare Epileptic since age 11. She will not give it up. And she has seizures every night after she eats it. I find wrappers stashed under her mattress.

I would have a serious problem giving up chocolate, even if it might be a cause of my seizures.

Can chocolate trigger seizures?

While chocolate does contain caffeine, there isn't definitive scientific data about specific food triggers for seizures. However, some people with epilepsy do notice patterns where certain foods, including chocolate, seem to trigger their seizures.

The key is individual sensitivity. If you consistently notice seizures happening after eating chocolate, that pattern is worth paying attention to and discussing with your doctor.

About caffeine as a trigger:

Caffeine is a stimulant that can lower the seizure threshold in some people, especially at higher doses or in those who are more susceptible. Common sources include:

- Coffee
- Tea
- Soda
- Chocolate

The amount of caffeine in chocolate is typically lower than in coffee or energy drinks, but individual responses vary greatly. What might be fine for one person could potentially trigger seizures in another.

If you suspect chocolate might be triggering your seizures, consider tracking when you eat it and whether seizures follow a pattern. This information can help you and your healthcare provider determine if it's a trigger for you specifically.
