A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI

Just finished my annual appointment with my primary physician. It's time for my much-hated colonoscopy. We agreed on a specific group/practice to do the procedure, and he sent the referral electronically.

I was sent a text message to my phone with a link to a page for submitting my medical and insurance information. It was a long form to view on my phone. When it came to my insurance info, the questions were really confusing. When I had to submit a bunch of info... my Medicare number and primary… read more

How did you deal with all this without having a seizure? Your situation would have incited one for me.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I've cooled off a little. I never considered having to video anything, as I was following the instructions of the representative given during my initial phone call. Yes, I was a little frustrated that I couldn't be helped by the first phone representative, but at least she was up front with me about it, so that's just how it was. I didn't appreciate the extra round trip I had to make just to get help completing the form, because I had to get behind the wheel. I do have my license, but I try to keep my driving limited. Waiting in line in the office wasn't an issue for me either, there were people there in front of me. This wasn't a nurse, it was the front desk receptionist, with three additional office personnel who heard it and turned their heads.

Blasting a business on social media isn't how I handle things, I'm more old-school, direct and conventional. I prefer a face-to-face with a person in authority, and if there's no satisfaction in that meeting, it'll be followed by a formal written letter via snail mail addressed to the person in charge of the entire practice. I am a reasonable person. Once I cool off, I can remain calm and firm while lodging a complaint. That's usually effective. If not, the letter is already complete, waiting for the envelope and stamp.

The GI doctors there are really good, they did my last colonoscopy at a different facility, but this office is much closer to me. I'm still planning to get the procedure done there. Then, afterwards I'll have that meeting, assess whether it's necessary to send the letter and decide whether or not to permanently fire them, depending on the response, if I get one at all. I won't judge the entire practice based on one employee, but I sure as hell will judge them based on their response afterward, and I'll definitely convey that message.

Thankfully I've never had to deal with any nurses like that, but if I was you I would've recorded the encounter and than send a complaint and if they still don't do anything than at that point I would've uploaded it to the internet for a little humility

That was rotten assistance you received. But if you think that was bad, wait until AI takes the place of the person you spoke to.

Outrageous. I have gotten timed out so many times that I now get my son to help. I agree the forms are ridiculous. My new gastroenterologist's practice sends me something new about every other day. And the things they send are useless. And I would see the practice manager and explain what happened.
