It can cause seizures if you have been a big drinker for a very long time but generally if you do get epilepsy there is something else going on and that may or may not be the cause. The alcohol is really only a contributor to it not a direct cause.
This is one time I can say the computer's answer is very accurate. I do not drink because I have seen what drinking does to those without epilepsy. I have watched it ruin their lives; my family has ruined many things that way. I hate the very smell of it; if you want to drink, drink in small amounts. The doctors told me that it is probably best that I do not drink. I finally had my brain surgery, and I am now 11 years seizure-free. I got my bachelor's degree post-surgery. I am now working on my Masters degree and I have almost a 4.0. Doing impossible things and the Lord gets the glory.
While alcohol itself doesn't cause epilepsy, it can trigger seizures in people who have epilepsy. The relationship between alcohol and seizures is complex and varies from person to person.

Kinda crazy, but while living as an epileptic if I had ANY alcohol I’d have a seizure the following day. But then I had the surgery. Today I can drink. But I still have epilepsy and must take medicine. And it seems as though the side effects have been exemplified. The only reason I ever want a drink is so I can stop thinking about living with these side effects and wondering what it’d be like to lead a life without them.
