I went to see a new neurologist a couple of days ago and got told that my Levetiracetam was going to be increased to 4000 milligrams per day. What I mean about my seizures being under control is that my last seizure was back on February 9th, 2025 and before this one I had it on April 18th, 2023. I try very hard to stay away from the causes and triggers of seizures. Also, the neurologist added for me to take 500 milligrams of Calcium. I don't quite understand and feel like this is a lot of… read more

The typical adult dosage range for levetiracetam is between 250 to 3,000 milligrams per day, usually divided into two doses. Since your proposed dosage is higher than this typical range, it's understandable to have concerns. While your seizures appear well-controlled with a significant gap between episodes, only your neurologist can fully evaluate your specific situation and needs. It's important to have an open discussion with your neurologist about:
- Why they believe a dosage increase is necessary despite your good seizure control
- Any concerns about potential side effects at the higher dose
- The specific benefits they expect from this change
- Whether a more gradual increase might be appropriate

Never adjust your medication dosage without consulting your healthcare provider first.

If I went to see my epileptologist and he didn't like the blood level of my drugs, he made changes.

Let your Dr. know how you feel about that. Don't hesitate to talk to him/her now as far as that. Thankfully if my Dr. wants to increase me on 1 I never held back on questioning him why. If I didn't feel needed, I would let him know. He would hold back wanting me to keep him informed on how things went. If I felt I should I would let him know and would.
