While the search results don't specifically mention stereo EEG experiences, they do discuss various types of EEG testing that doctors commonly use for epilepsy diagnosis. Standard EEG tests typically take 20-40 minutes, but results aren't always conclusive on the first try.
In fact, about 50% of EEGs performed on people who experience seizures show normal results, even if they have epilepsy. This is why doctors often need to do additional or longer-term monitoring. For more conclusive results, doctors may recommend:
- Ambulatory EEG monitoring (24 hours to 3 days)
- Video EEG monitoring (can be inpatient or outpatient)
- Prolonged EEG monitoring (several days)
These extended monitoring options help increase the chances of capturing actual seizure activity, which is crucial for getting a confident diagnosis.

Yes I also only had small ones, but at least I had some. This life is not for anyone.

I have had a stereo EEG (SEEG) where they drilled holes in my skull and attached wires to my actual brain. I stayed in the hospital for 1 week. The bad thing was I didn’t have any big seizures that week so doctors didn’t get any information out of it. It was a waste. Now I have a Neurostimulator (RNS)which records my brain activity 24/7.
