Memory and cognitive changes are common with epilepsy, affecting up to 70% of people with the condition. These changes can impact your ability to learn, remember, and make decisions. This can happen due to:

- The direct effects of epilepsy on brain areas controlling cognition
- Memory difficulties in the minutes or hours after seizures
- Side effects from antiepileptic medications Temporal lobe epilepsy in particular can affect memory because it impacts the hippocampus - the brain's memory center. This can affect your ability to:

- Remember recent events
- Keep track of appointments
- Remember to take medications
- Recall what happened recently (while maintaining older memories)

It's important to discuss any memory concerns with your doctor. Never stop taking medications without consulting them first, as proper seizure control is crucial for preserving memory function.

Yeah I still do remember the old days growing up - music, movies, tv of the ‘80s. It was then that I remember getting those funny feelings in my stomach every now and then. Those turned out to be aura due to the seizures, so I started taking meds for epilepsy. And since then, I may have far less seizures, but I have a tougher time remembering everything.
